Prior to his academic career, Dr Naumovski has established himself as a fully qualified chef. He worked in several international and fine dining restaurants around the Newcastle area (NSW) where he managed the kitchen brigade and trained a number of apprentices. During this time, he won several prestigious culinary awards and assisted numerous restaurants in menu design and staff training.
Dr Nenad Naumovski completed his Bachelor of Human Nutrition at the University of Newcastle (UoN), Australia and Honours degree (First Class) in Human Nutrition with interest in atherosclerosis markers of blood plasma thiols and vitamin B, dietary food record analysis and cognitive screening of elderly population residing in a retirement village. Dr Naumovski’s PhD in Food Science was gained by investigating the cholesterol lowering properties of major green tea catechin, epigallocatehin gallate (EGCG) in animal models of hypercholesterolemia as well as determining the pharmacokinetic and cholesterol lowering properties of EGCG in humans. During this time, Dr Naumovski applied his expertise in development and adaptation of chromatographic methods used for analysis of health indicators in blood such as plasma thiols, sterols, carotenoids and tocopherols.
Dr Naumovski commenced his employment at University of Canberra (UC) in 2014 as an Assistant Professor in Food Science and Human Nutrition. Currently he is a a course convener for Bachelor of Human Nutrition Honours degree and he also leads the multidisciplinary research team ‘Collaborative Research in Bioactives and Biomarkers (CRIBB) group’ at UC investigating plant bioactives, psychocardiology and development of nutraceuticals.
